1. Coaches ask their team to arrive 60 minutes prior to game start (Minors and Majors), 30 minutes prior to game start (Rookie Minors), for warm up.
2. Coaches make sure your team does a pre-game team jog, stretch, some high knees, butt-kicks, lunges, and then, IN THE OUTFIELD do partner throwing until arms are warm. Then, begin drills like grounders, pop fly's and wiffle ball hitting. Try to have more than 1 coach assisting so there are multiple lines, and less kids standing around. Make sure you get the starting pitcher to work with the starting catcher for 10-20 throws.
3. Each team should get a 10-minute infield warmup prior to game start.
4. Coaches must provide their game lineup to the opposing coach 10 minutes before game time and  meet with umpires to exchange lineups and discuss rules. Coaches must specifically mention any call-up or substitution players.
5. Coaches try to have your lineup ready the night before, and hold parents accountable to helping you establish lineup deadline rules. Parents of players need to contact Manager/Coaches the day/night before if missing a game. Use Team Snap whenever possible to assist.
6. Fielding positions: coaches should rotate kids through as many positions as possible all season long. Kids should play 2-3 positions in every game. (exceptions are 1B and Catcher for safety reasons) (You can start FRESH with your lineups for the playoffs)
7. Make sure you keep track of the number of times a child sits off (substitutions) in a game and over the course of the season, and keep this number fair to all kids on the team. (Or you will hear from a frustrated parent)
8. Coaches should try to use a rotating batting order all season long. (In regular season) If your #8 hitter bats last in the game you just finished, then your #9 hitter should bat first in the next game. (You can start FRESH for the playoffs)
9. Practices:

• Minors and Majors Coaches should have 1 field practice and 1 batting practice each week in the spring season. Practices in the fall are optional.
• Rookie Minor, Junior Rookie and Tball should have 1 field practice each week in the spring season. Practices in the fall are optional.

10. Coaches are responsible for finding a Team Manager (See below)
11. Each Rookie Minors, Minors and Majors team MUST have 1 Head Coach and 2 Assistant Coaches, and 1 Team Manager (see below).
12. Shorts are not allowed when coaching Rookie MInors, Minors or Majors. Coaches must wear pants and a Beacon HIll ball cap. 
13. Coaches are responsible for ensuring that players have safe and legal equipment (ie bats, helmets etc)

Regular Season Baseball Pitching Rules  

Regulation VI - Pitchers 

(a) Any player on a regular season team may pitch. 

Exception: Any player who has played the position of catcher in four (4) or more innings in a game is not eligible to pitch  on that calendar day. 

A player who played the position of catcher for three (3) innings or less, moves to the pitcher position, and delivers 21  pitches or more in the same day, may not return to the catcher position on that calendar day. EXCEPTION: If the pitcher  reaches the 20-pitch limit while facing a batter, the pitcher may continue to pitch, and maintain their eligibility to return to  the catcher position, until any one of the following conditions occur: (1) that batter reaches base; (2) that batter is retired;  (3) the third out is made to complete the half-inning or the game; or (4) the pitcher is removed from the mound prior to  the batter completing his/her at-bat. 

Approved Ruling: The catcher receiving one pitch to a batter in the fourth inning constitutes having caught four (4)  innings. Warm-up pitches do not count, only when the ball is live will the pitches count toward innings caught. 

(b) A pitcher once removed from the mound cannot return as a pitcher. Intermediate (50-70) Division, Junior League,  and Senior League only: A pitcher remaining on defence in the game, but moving to a different defensive position, can  return as a pitcher anytime in the remainder of the game, but only once per game. 

(c) The manager must remove the pitcher when said pitcher reaches the limit for his/her age group as noted below, but  the pitcher may remain in the game at another position: 

League Age: 13 - 16: 95 pitches per day 

    11 - 12: 85 pitches per day 

    9 - 10: 75 pitches per day 

    7 - 8: 50 pitches per day 

Exception: If a pitcher reaches the limit imposed in Regulation VI(c) for his/her league age while facing a batter, the  pitcher may continue to pitch until any one of the following conditions occurs: (1)the batter reaches base; (2) the batter is  put out; (3) the third out is made to complete the half-inning of the game; (4) the pitcher is removed from the mound prior  to the batter completing his/her at bat. 

NOTE: If a pitcher reaches 40 pitches while facing a batter, the pitcher may continue to pitch, and maintain their eligibility  to play the position of catcher for the remainder of that day, until any one of the following conditions occurs:(1) that  batter reaches base; (2) that batter is retired; (3) the third out is made to complete the half inning or the game; or (4) the  pitcher is removed from the mound prior to the batter completing his/her at-bat. The pitcher would be allowed to play  the catcher position provided that pitcher is moved, removed, or the game is completed before delivering a pitch to  another batter. If a player delivers 41 or more pitches, and is not covered under the threshold exception, the player may  not play the position of catcher for the remainder of that day. 

(d) Pitchers league age 14 and under must adhere to the following rest requirements: 

• If a player pitches 66 or more pitches in a day, four (4) calendar days of rest must be observed. • If a player pitches 51-65 pitches in a day, three (3) calendar days of rest must be observed. • If a player pitches 36-50 pitches in a day, two (2) calendar days of rest must be observed. 
• If a player pitches 21-35 pitches in a day, one (1) calendar day of rest must be observed. 
• If a player pitches 1-20 pitches in a day, no (0) calendar day of rest is required. 

NOTE 1: Under no circumstance shall a player pitch in three (3) consecutive days. 

NOTE 2: A pitcher’s pitch count for the purposes of day(s) rest threshold is determined by the first pitch thrown to a  batter. The pitcher may not start a new batter once the limit imposed in Regulation VI(c) has been met. 

(e) Each league must designate the scorekeeper or another game official as the official pitch count recorder. 

(f) The pitch count recorder must provide the current pitch count for any pitcher when requested by either manager or  any umpire. However, the manager is responsible for knowing when his/her pitcher must be removed.

As the weather can be variable, especially in fall and parts of spring, BHBSAs cancellation policy is to be followed:

1. Game cancellation decisions are made at game time at the park unless all players, coaches and umpires, and concession staff are advised 24 hours in advance.
2. Unless a game has been officially cancelled 24 hours in advance, players are to be at the game location for the specified games time, or earlier for warm up at the direction of the coach.   
3. It is the game umpire's and coaches' decision whether or not to postpone or cancel a game.
4. Should rain delay the start of the game, a 20 minute delay will be observed. (Minors games will play a 4 inning game). Should there be a further delay (over 20 minutes) the game will be called by the field umpire
5. In the event of a rain out or rescheduling, it is the responsibility of the home team Manager or Coach to notify the league President, VP Baseball, Umpire in Chief, and Scheduler by email as soon as possible after the cancellation decision has been made. On-site Concession staff are also to be informed in person that a game has been cancelled. In the event that the game has been cancelled before attending to the field, the Scheduler or President will also contact Concession staff.
6. The Scheduler will work with their counterpart at the visiting league to reschedule Interlock games and to inform the team Managers/Coaches.  
7. Schedulers will do their best to re-schedule the game at a suitable time and location

Tournaments typically have their own set of rules and pitching limits. It is the coaches responsibility to become familiar with the exact set of rules at the tournament they are participating in, and attend any info sessions that are offered by the host park.

Hard copies of the Little League Rule Book are available from the VP of Baseball or the UIC.
