Beacon Hill is a member of South Vancouver Island (SVI) Minor Softball Association and the BC Amateur Softball Association (Softball BC), the official Provincial Sport Organization for Softball/Fastball in B.C.
We provide Minor Softball programs for players aged 8 to 15. Our mission is to engage the youth of our community in healthy activity through learning and appreciating the sport of softball and encouraging the development of not only softball skills but life skills. We aim to provide quality softball instruction in the fundamental aspects of the game in a safe, fun, positive and nurturing environment, teaching these young athletes to strive to be their best and to have success on and off the diamond.
From March 29 to mid June, we will be offering “C” level (recreational) programs for U10 – U16.
Practices and all home games will take place at Pemberton Park. Coaches may schedule additional batting practice time at the batting cage at Hollywood Park. See our Fields page to view current practice schedules.
What will the season look like?
Softball BC (SBBC) is working very hard on our behalf, but everything must be incrementally approved by the Province and ViaSport – this is a huge obstacle to planning. Secondly, beyond Inning 1 (where we are now), nothing can be explained with great precision because it is something that must be approved in the future. The description below summarizes the potential stages of play.
SBBC has name its stages as “Innings”:
Inning 1 — Where we are now. Teams can practice and tryouts can be held. No scrimmages or games with other teams.
Inning 2 — Games/scrimmages can be played against other teams in your own Association only.
Inning 2.5 — Games can be played against teams within your own Association and teams can play other team(s) in a neighboring Association (Paring). For example:
- Beacon Hill U12C team can play against the Carnarvon U12C team but not other U12C teams from other Associations.
- If Beacon Hill had 2 U12C teams they could both play against each other and the other Carnarvon U12C team for a total of 3 teams playing against each other.
Important to note – SBBC will approve the “pairings”. Pairings will be approved to create the maximum number of teams playing against each other for the maximum number of teams. They are not looking for opinions on pairings. For example: if only two Associations had 2 U12C teams each and the rest had 1 U12C team they would not be paired with each other but would both be paired with single team Associations to create two groups of three teams.
Inning 3 – We will use cohort groups of likely 100 (as per last year). Cohorts are easier on the Island because we have fewer teams and we are unlikely to have a grouping larger than 100.
There will be no assessments for Softball at this time, however if play against other organizations begins, we will need to review at that time. If play versus other organizations are allowed before the end of the season, we will need to divide the teams, this will only be for the U10s and U12s divisions as the participant numbers can sustain two teams.
