Early Development

Our early development programs are focused on fun and helping our youngsters learn the basic skills to move on to baseball or softball.

Blast Ball

For ages 3 & 4 (born Sep 1, 2016 – Aug 31, 2018)

Blast Ball introduces children ages 3-4 to the basic fundamentals of baseball: hitting, throwing, catching, running and fielding. Kids hit a spongy ball off a stationary tee and run the bases. No score is kept — the focus is on fun, sportsmanship, and safety.

Blast Ball players play on the lower field (opposite the playground) at Hollywood Park.

Tee Ball players play on the lower field (opposite the playground) at Hollywood Park. Each team will generally practice one evening per week and have one game on Saturday or Sunday.

Tee Ball

For ages 5 & 6 (born Sep 1, 2014 – Aug 31, 2016)

Tee Ball provides an introduction to organized baseball and team play. Children are instructed on the fundamentals of baseball – hitting, throwing, catching, running and fielding – with a lot coaching and parent support in a fun game environment. Players start the season by batting off a stationary tee, but may have the opportunity to be pitched to by the coach before the end of the season. Tee Ball games consist of 3 or 4 innings with each player getting a turn at bat. Game length will be no more than 90 minutes.  During a game, there are SAFE’s and OUT’s on bases, but no scores are kept. Coaches are allowed on the field to assist the players with hitting and fielding.  Tee Ball is suitable for both aspiring baseball and softball players.  If appropriate, 6-year-old players who demonstrate the required level of skill and maturity may be assessed for Mini Minors.  It is also possible for 7-year-old players to participate in T-Ball when appropriate.

Mini Minors

For ages 7 & 8 (birthday Sep 1, 2012 – Aug 31, 2014)

In Mini Minors, children receive additional instruction on the fundamentals of baseball – hitting, throwing, catching, running and fielding – with emphasis on playing positions in the field and good sportsmanship during game play.  Players start the season by hitting from coach pitch, but after the May long weekend they will have the opportunity to practice hitting from player/coach pitch in addition to practicing pitching themselves if desired. Mini Minor games consist of 4 innings (maximum 2 hours long) with each player getting a turn at bat and all players playing the field in every inning.  During a game, each team will have 3 outs or a maximum of 3 runs per at bat per inning. Mini Minors is suitable for both aspiring baseball and softball players. If appropriate, 8-year-old players who demonstrate the required level of skill and maturity may be assessed for Minors baseball or U10 softball.

Mini Minors play on the lower field (opposite the playground) at Hollywood Park. Each team will generally practice one evening per week and have one game on Saturday or Sunday.
