Learn to Play ( U9 and U11)
U9 Learn to Play
The U9 program supports our youngest softball players focusing on having fun and learning to play softball.
Age: Born in 2015 & 2014
Schedule:
The season begins in early April and runs until June. During this time, players will be on the field an average of two times per week. Sat mornings at 9 or 9:30 and another practice slot mid-week to be determined by the volunteer coaches
U9 Program Includes:
- Team t-shirt jersey
- Hat
- Team photo + player photo
- 1 game (parent umpire) + 1 practice per week (April – June)
- Coach pitch with progression to pitchers
- Team equipment provided by Beacon Hill
Equipment:
Required equipment:
- batting helmet with a strap and cage
- glove
- cleats (optional) – baseball or soccer style cleats are fine
- infield face guard (optional)

U11 Learn to Play
The U11 program focus on skill develop and the fun while continuing to be taught the fundamentals and rules of Softball. The South Vancouver Island (SVI) Minor Softball Association U11 league has two tiers, Tier 1 and Tier 2. Tier 1 is geared towards players with Softball experience, and Tier 2 is geared towards new players. A Machine/Coach pitch will be used in Tier 2 for part of the season. In Tier 1, there is no Machine/Coach pitch.
Age: Born in 2013 & 2012
It is possible for younger players to join, if space is available. Contact the VP of Softball (vpsoftball@beaconhillball.com) if you would like to request your younger child play at this level.
Schedule:
The season runs from early April until the end of June.
In U11, there are 1-2 regular season games per week. League games are usually on Saturdays from 11:00am-1:00pm or 1:00-3:00pm and Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:00pm or 6:30-8:30pm.
Practice schedules 1-2 practices per week to be determined by the coaches.
Assessments:
Assessments may be required dependingon registration numbers.
Clothing/Equipment:
Required equipment:
- batting helmet with a strap and cage
- glove
- cleats (recommended, but not mandatory, baseball or soccer cleats are fine)
- infield face guards for pitchers (recommended for all players, especially new players)
- grey ball pants
Team jerseys will be distributed and must be returned at the end of the season. Please bring a $50 deposit cheque to your team coach made out to ‘Beacon Hill Baseball & Softball Association’. The cheque will be destroyed when you return the jersey at the end of the season.
